Summary: This blog-post explains to people blogging in languages other than English, how to use “Zemanta“ (a Semantic plugin).
- Greek readers: Δείτε τη ΜΕΤΑΦΡΑΣΗ αυτού του ποστ, “Οδηγίες Χρήσης του Semantic Plugin Zemanta για ΜΗ-γνωρίζοντες αγγλικά“.
-What is “Zemanta”?
Zemanta is a tiny Firefox plugin that works for almost any type of blog, automatically generating tags, links and images with a certain Semantic relevance to your blog-posts (every time you save them).
Zemanta works for WordPress, blogspot, and other types of blogs.
Consult Zemanta’s main site: http://www.zemanta.com
Unfortunately, Zemanta only works for English posts, at the moment. However, as a registered tester of Zemanta’s API, I wrote a message in the Zemanta developer’s forum, with some ideas about using Zemanta in other languages. Here is how:
Zemanta’s results will be in English, but a part of them is useful (in other languages) anyway: E.g. Images. Also tags and categories are BEST done in English, since today there is fusion of information all over the planet and ever-improving quality in automatic translation. So a blogger writing about issues that concern the whole world, should use international (English) tags and categories, to be searchable by international audiences. The only negative thing (but not totally) is that links to other blog-posts (generated by Zemanta) will also be in English, but these are not totally rejectable: Maybe some of them are also relevant and desirable (I certainly use a lot of them, even in Greek posts).
There is a simple way for any non-English blogger to use Zemanta already, even without foreign language extensions, while writing NON-English posts. Here is the procedure:
- Write your non-English post as a “private post”, keeping Zemanta switched OFF. Do NOT put a title to it yet. Save it.
- Copy this (entire) text to Google’s automatic translation service, e.g. using my own site http://omadeon.com/tran, which also includees babelfish / Yahoo automatic translation:
- Translate automatically your (non-Engllish) text into English. Then, copy-and-paste the translation to a NEW BLOG POST, intended as a final (public) post in your blog.
- Switch ON Zemanta, to get semantic information attached to your post.
- Switch OFF Zemanta, delete your text (taking care not to delete LINKS if you do need them). Go back now to your original (non-English) private blog-post, copy-and-paste it into the new post (the one you are about to publish). Adjust the title of this post and press “Publish”.
- VOILA: -You have used Zemanta successfully, in a Non-English post!
In (5) one further possibility is to hand-edit the English automatic translation, to publish your post a second time, this time also in English. The drawback here is that -usually- the translations are of bad quality, a kind of “pigeon-English”; quite often so bad that you have to re-translate your text from scratch! However, the quality is already improving and some types of text get better translated than others (automatically).
- NOTE: If you are a software developer, it is possible to use clever and simple programming calls to Google’s new “translation API” to translate (almost any) blog-post into English temporarily generating semantic results from Zemanta. Clever use of Google’s Translation API by the Zemanta developer(s) can certainly make it work automatically in other languages, making my… wise advice (here) obsolete!

THIS blog nominated for a controversial “Oscar”… 02/05/2008
Tags: Academy Award, BLOG, Blog award, Business and Economy, English language, Greece, politics, Society and Culture
ENGLISH SUMMARY: This blog (”Omadeon”) was recently nominated for an “Oscar” in a Greek Blog Awards competition, organized by another blogger, in a subjective sort of way, expressing mostly his/her personal preferences (I believe).
Of course, I am happy and honoured that someone (a total stranger – in fact) has chosen me and my… eccentric blog for the “Cultural Category Blog Oscar” nomination (among five chosen candidates) but I have no illusions about negative aspects of the “Oscar awards” mentality; the possible faults in the methodology of (fake?) awards, the Oscar-providers’ subjective element, the REAL drawbacks of the actual voting process, etc.
Nevertheless, I finally decided not to resign from the Greek “Blog Oscar competition”.

Ε, ναι! Και μάλιστα ΧΩΡΙΣ βύσμα σε κανένα… blogo-Hollywood!
ENGLISH SUMMARY: This blog (“Omadeon”) was recently nominated for an “Oscar” in a Greek Blog Oscars competition, organized by another blogger in a subjective sort of way, expressing mostly personal preferences. Of course I am happy and honoured that someone (a total stranger – in fact) has chosen me and my… eccentric blog for the “Cultural Category Blog Oscar” nomination (among five chosen candidates) but I have no illusions about negative aspects of the “Oscar awards” mentality; the methodology of these (fake?) awards, the Oscar-providers’ possible subjective element, the REAL drawbacks of the actual voting process, etc.

Nevertheless, I finally decided not to resign from the “Greek Blog-Oscar competition”.
Whatever the drawbacks of these (fake?) Oscar Awards, whatever bad quality or… kitsch-factor involved (in a context where the “Society of the Spectacle” is creeping into Greek blogs and Greek blog politics)… the fact remains that there is also a positive side (more than one – in fact):
By not resigning, I achieve the following openly positive, beneficial goals:
1) The “nomination” itself , of this blog as one among five candidates (in the “Best Cultural Contribution of 2008″ Oscar Category) is undeniable evidence that… all the malicious slander against this blog (in the past) was just a pack of lies: More specifically, this blog has been called “a spider’s nest”, a “pigsty” and -certainly- a “blog NOT worth reading” (by very-very few people, who nevertheless have some influence in the Greek blogosphere).
- Well, go ahead NOW; explain away the “cultural Oscar of the year” nomination, boys!
2) By NOT resigning, I can still continue to CRITISIZE the “blog Oscar” mentality, INFILTRATING the… reactionary “blog Oscar” Auhoritarian Institutions of this country (as well as INFILTRATE… err…. sorry… INFLIRTATE… ) beautiful wimmin, az well… a ha ha ha (like my old friend Mr. BORAT – remember?)
3) By NOT resigning, more and more people (rather than… dogs -for instance) will read this blog (several blogs in fact)!- NOT bad, isn’t it?
I mean… Hey, wait a minute, maaan…
WHY do I have to feel guilty for some extra promotion at zero cost? Or do I have to renounce my own UNPAID work, sitting down to write all this bla-bla-bla… bulshit, spending so many hundreds of hours (in 250 blog-posts – so far) just for nothin’, maaaan?
-
I mean… hey maaan, if you reckon I should work so f@ckin’ hard, like a damn dog without even a damn useless bone, now and then, maaan, then why don’tchya go f@ck yourself hard, maaan?
Dontchya forget maaan, where it all started:
Hollywood, before we (Pale Faces) snatched it from the Indians

A minimal tribute to the “impiteous Tata Sisters” 15/12/2007

The existence of extremely popular Greek bloggers who are also… extremely filthy, tacky, full of gossip, slander and all kinds of excrement, has caused the appearance of antidote-blogs, often misconstrued as “hate-blogs”. Usually, they are not hate-blogs: On the contrary, they are heroic activists against the filth of certain other blogs (usually not readily detectable)!
E.g. there exists an unusual blog, full of vitality, honesty and strong language (wherever necessary): The “Impiteous Tata Sisters blog” (of “minimal situationism“). I had a good laugh, reading what the Tata Sisters come up with, from time to time; agreeing with them most of the time! Unfortunately, it’s a Greek-speaking blog. However, it’s worth reading if you can understand Greek and if your mind is open ; you can also try automatic translations of this blog’s posts in English (quite ghastly in translation errors sometimes, but sometimes also even funnier, as “Automatic Translation Babel-Pigeon English”). From now on, I decided to include this militant, straight-talking “Tata Sisters Blog” in my blogroll. I also created for it a convenient mini-banner for easy reference (and free promotion through my own blog):

Technical ideas to end ALL blog CENSORSHIP since Greek politicians over-moderate their blog-critics 23/09/2007
Mr. Venizelos, a famous overweight Greek politician who looks a little like the deceased comedian Benny Hill, also the most likely successor of Mr. George Papandreou as the new leader of “PASOK” (opposition party) was accused of extreme lack of… moderation today, while exercising his rights to… moderate (Blog Comments), when -eventually- a radical Greek blogger (“De-Masame-Re”) framed Mr. Venizelos’s blog with 2 comments (and different aliases); one that praised him and one that criticised him (respectfully, with *no* insults), in order to prove that the second one would be censored!
-
Well, YES! (you guessed it) it WAS censored! (or… wasn’t it?)
-
So, the protester reported evidence that his 2nd comment (of respectful criticism) was censored by the politician, in his blog.
-
HOWEVER, some time after the censorship was reported (if I understand the story correctly), it appears that the (so-called) “censored comment” was published, after all.
- Then, the protester quickly inferred that this act of generosity towards him was deliberate, due to (the politician’s) fear of bad publicity, after the (initial) act of censorship was reported. (Aha… “Causality Inversion”, apparently. Click HERE to read about a Real Institute investigating such PARADOXES ; quite fascinating!)
- Mr. Venizelos’s friends (and others) subsequently replied that “not-so-friendly-but-respectful” comments need MORE TIME for approval (requiring personal attention from the politician himself) since they are impossible for mere… secretaries to handle!
- Nobody at the moment seems to know (for sure, 100%) WHAT actually happened; except… ONE thing:
-
According to Murphy‘s Law, if a filthy, hideous Act of Censorship CAN happen, it… WILL happen!
-
Wow!
The emerging new modern Greek Vice of deleting (even) respectful comments, abusing the ‘Right to Moderate’, is evidently worsening, most probably on the verge of a national epidemic (possibly a Global one, too -needless to say- …hehe)
-
Well, -believe it or not- all this generated in my mind certain simple (technical) creative ideas, to implement the END of ALL CENSORSHIP in blogs (and all public net-discussions in general).
More about this will appear, here, in the near future:. -Technical Solutions to END all abuse of Moderation and ALL censorship. once and for all! (small hint: Google already does this, anyway! -to some extent)!
